SITUATION:
Report Macro - You canceled the previous operation
SOLUTION:
If you receive this error when attempting to run the Case Summary or the Response Analysis Report, the most likely cause is that you have Microsoft Office 2007 installed. These two reports are not compatible with Office 2007 due to the extensive changes that Microsoft has incorporated in that version. The RiskWatch application reports will run correctly with Office 2000 and Office 2003. At this time, there is no projected release date for a 2007 compatibility release.
SITUATION:
Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135) Error Message
SOLUTION:

If you receive an error 0x00000135 when attempting to run the Case Summary or the Response Analysis Report, the most likely cause is that the machine you are using does not have the Microsoft .NET Framework installed. These reports require the .NET Framework in order to launch and operate. You can download the appropriate version of the .NET Framework here:

SITUATION:
When doing a qualitative analysis, do I have to adjust the SAFE and LAFE?
SOLUTION:
By default, the LAFE (Local Annual Frequency Estimate) & SAFE (Standard Annual Frequency Estimate) figures are the same. SAFE figures are for North America. You should ALWAYS adjust the LAFE for your locale and environment. For example, if your facility is located near an airport, the LAFE should be adjusted upward for aircraft accident.
SITUATION:
Where does RiskWatch® get the SAFE values?
SOLUTION:

The Standard Annual Frequency Estimate (SAFE) values are reference values only and are derived from factual data such as:

  • Actual crime statistics
  • Insurance actuarial data
  • Annual computer security surveys, such as
  • Computer Security Institute /Federal Bureau of Investigation (CSI/FBI)
  • Information Week
  • Information Security
  • The American Society for Industrial Security's (ASIS) annual survey on intellectual property loss
  • Hacker and virus tracking web sites, such as
  • Attrition
  • Wild List
  • The Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Center (CERT/CC)
  • The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Vulnerability Analysis and Assessment Program
  • Security expert estimates for new and unusual threats that do not occur often
SITUATION:
I ran a report and it opened up all garbled and jumbled together. How do I fix it?
SOLUTION:

The default word processing program (WordPad) does not format the data correctly. Re-set the default to point to your preferred word processing program as follows:

  • Click on Tools
  • Click on Options
  • Click on RiskWatch
  • Click on RTF Viewer
  • Click on External
  • Browse to the locale on your hard drive of the executable file (such as Winword.exe)
SITUATION:
I outputted the question sets. When I opened RWAnswer.exe, I received an "Invalid ID" error message.
SOLUTION:
Return to the "Identify Respondents" section on the question tab. Use the scroll bar to find and highlight the respondent you created. Look at the ID entry for that respondent to make certain that you are inputting name and ID correctly. The ID is case sensitive. If the correct information is being input, check that there are four files in the directory you are using for the survey files. You should have a question file (qst...), an answer file (ans...), an ID file (respid...),. These files must be in the same directory. The survey may not be run from within a zip file or an email message.
SITUATION:
I made changes to the report but when I output the report again, I do not see the changes
SOLUTION:

When you output a report in a RiskWatch application, (*.RTF), the program will over-write any changes to the report. If you change a report, you must use "Save As" and save the file with a different name. If you change the case data and run the report again, you will overwrite the original names report not the one you changed and the information in one of the reports will need to be up-dated.

Changes that are global in nature, i.e. adding Company logos and formatting, headers and footers and are desired as permanent formatting changes may be handled by editing the master document for that report.

SITUATION:
I created a new functional area in Phase I. I created 5 new respondents and assigned that area to them.
When I output the question sets, they have no questions.
SOLUTION:
When you create a new functional area, you must assign questions to the functional area. Click on the question tab, click the edit/add questions button, and, for all categories, and questions within the categories, assign the new functional area to appropriate questions. Respondents receive only questions that are assigned to functional areas that they have been assigned to.
SITUATION:
I am trying to answer the questions that were sent to me with RWAnswer.exe. The Answer box does not allow me to type "yes" or "no."
SOLUTION:
The acceptable response is a percentage number. 100% would be totally compliant. 0% would be totally non compliant.
SITUATION:
I can't print some of the reports - they are grayed out and not available.
SOLUTION:

Look at the buttons on the bottom right of the screen. Phase I and Phase II might be green, but if phase III is still red, the reports are unavailable. If you went back and changed something on a prior screen, in a prior phase, or skipped a step at any point, the buttons either did not change from red to green, or they changed from green back to red. This is NORMAL behavior for the software. The methodology requires you to complete all phases before moving to the next phase. If you go back, the software requires that you look at all screens to confirm that your earlier change did not impact upon some later linkages.

Move sequentially through all the phases and all the screens. Run the ALE calculation if you have changed anything. The reports should now be available.

If you have moved to the reports screen and all of the reports except the top two or three, click on the "Report Instructions" button. This will open up the rest of the reports to you.

SITUATION:
How do I view/print the questions so that the questions are all in categories? Right now they are not sorted.
SOLUTION:
The software selects the fields from the database in a pre-determined format and the sort functionality is not present. Save the document with another name and use the word processing program to manipulate the questions by categories. OR, view/print the questions by selecting one category at a time. Save the resulting file with a descriptive name. De-select and re-select within the categories and repeat the process as necessary. Use the word processing program to "stitch" the reports together into one final report.
SITUATION:
In the Company Data dialog box, what factors are used to determine the"Value of the MISSION for the enterprise, per annum"?
SOLUTION:
You should value the MISSION based on revenues, appropriations or any other metric used to "size" the system.
